This past summer the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.

The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It will merge and build on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focus exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Follow the links for more information on these important changes.

Find out about the International Violence Against Women Act and learn how to get involved. Women Thrive develops, shapes, and advocates for policies that foster economic opportunity for women living in poverty. Their aim is to integrate U.S. international assistance and trade programs with concerns for women worldwide.

Say NO – UNiTE to End Violence against Women is a global call for action, launched in November 2009, on ending violence against women and girls. It is presented by UNIFEM as a contribution to advance the objectives of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women through social mobilization. UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman is the Spokesperson of Say NO.
