    on Jun 11 2011, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
at Lenox Library Gallery (18 Main St. Lenox, MA)

Members and friends are cordially invited to the BWWW annual meeting on Saturday, June 11th from 10: 30 – noon. The order of the day will begin with a few words by Kelly Marion, Chief Executive Officer of Girls Incorporated of the Berkshires, the 2010 recipient of the President’s Fund. She will discuss how Project Bold has impacted the girls’ experience at their center.

Following will be the keynote speaker, Eleanor Velez. Velez is currently the Multicultural Student Advisor at Berkshire Community College and works with students from many backgrounds including recent immigrants.  Her talk is entitled, “‘A Voice of Her Own’: How Writing and Telling Her Story Can Change a Woman’s Life.” She will show a video, a work in progress, that features some of her students’ immigrant stories, and she will talk about her own moving experience working with a group of illiterate women in her home country, Mexico. She is a dynamic and articulate advocate for the empowerment of women and for immigrants in general so we are very pleased that she will share her story with us.

A short business meeting will follow the speakers.

Light breakfast refreshments and drinks will be offered.

The annual meeting is free of charge, but we encourage members to make a donation to either BWWW or our President’s Fund to help us carry forward the local and global work of BWWW. Others interested in learning more about our organization are welcome to attend.

Instead of committing suicide or living in shame, Mukhtar spoke out, fighting for justice in the Pakistani courts—making world headlines. Further defying custom, she started two schools for girls in her village and a crisis center for abused women. Discover how a tragic event in the life of one woman marked a change for many.
